However, those who have seen Rupinder Handa perform live will surely nurture a different opinion. Born of Kartar Singh Handa and Charanjeet Kaur, this modern-day minstrel calls Sirsa her home. After finishing her schooling and graduation from Sirsa, Rupinder chose the world of music as her calling and has emerged as one of India’s most promising singing prodigies, with a mercurial voice that transcends definitions of range, pitch, and notes within the expansive gamut of vernacular music.
Rupinder Handa is no overnight sensation. This diligent disciple of Prof Bakshi Ram (her guru) has honed her ethereal voice through rigors of practice, and the right forays into a thoroughly methodical musical grooming and training. A Master of Arts (MA) scholar in music from the University of Punjab (Chandigarh) and an MPhil from the Punjab University (Patiala), this electrifying talent knows her roots well and has fortified them with constant training and rewaaz. Rupinder first entered into singing when she was in her 3rd class, which was also when she enthralled a live audience with her first performance. Building on her strengths, she finally ventured into music as a profession in 2006, when she took Punjab and even the rest of India by storm, winning the highly contested and prestigious title of 'Awaaz Punjab Di', on the popular MH1 channel. It propelled her to dizzying heights of fame, something that was just enough to cast her into the vortex of complacency.Instead, Rupinder build her strengths from this huge laurel and released her first album, Mere Haniyan (T-Series), in 2006. If she had been an overnight celebrity before, this album with one of the most illustrious music companies in India charted a great course of success for Rupinder.
She bested her own endeavors in her second album, Fulkariyan (Audio Touch), released in 2009. This two albums quickly made Rupinder Handa a darling of Punjabi hearts with her singing talents, and helped her make that leap from a successful album launch to contributing to various other musical endeavors. Her songs, as a result, was were prominently featured in successful compilations and albums like Pure Energy (Speed Records), Peche Pe Gye (T-Series), Fun (Amar Audio), Mohobttan 2010, Jago, Live Wire (Movie Box), Romance, Bhangra Junction (Vanjhali Records), Do dilan de mamle (SMI) and The Hitman Returns, to name a few.Rupinder Handa has also contributed a song to the movie Khushiyan, and her recent endeavors have given Punjabi music aficionados her third album, Loving Waves (T-Series). With lyrics from the likes of Gurcharan Virk, Jind Swara, Tajinder Dehar, Davender Benipal, Aman Handa and Avtar Singh Tari, this album is guaranteed to make Punjabi music lovers crave for more of Rupinder Handa. ACHIEVEMENTS Rupinder has been the recipient of many awards at the University, Regional and even the National Levels, and have received awards from Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bibi Parneet Kaur. She has performed live in front of APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, among many other dignitaries.
